Maybe it's because I'm used to doing semi-pro and pro banners, but I really don't like them. They're too generic and a bit ugly.

No. What's the point in telling him they're great when they're not? Nobody will ever get any better unless you're brutally honest with them. I'm not saying my work is perfect, far from it, but I think I've gotten as good as I am from getting my worked critiqued by professionals.
