I'm not sure if since the move from /mybb/ to the root directory correctly set the cookies but I'm asking these people to clear their cookies to see if they can properly log in. However, when I am logged in, I'm not totally in the root directory and find myself in /mybb/ directory. How can I make sure it doesn't happen? I think the confusion is what is causing the users to be kicked off.

Your board URL is set to http://www.oldelmtree.com/mybb/ when it should be http://www.oldelmtree.com/

You can change it by going to Admin CP > Configuration > Settings > General Configuration.

Did you update the cookie settings yourself...?? If you didn't then it'll still have the old settings, thus it won't work.
