Use the index page template instead!
Malcolm: If you insert it in the headerinclude, all your pages will have same description. That's worse than if your forum absolutely don't have description.

I took it from one of my forums that I only allow the home page to be crawled, so for me it doesn't really matter.
Either way, meta tags aren't used as much as they used to be. Especially keywords.
