What happens if i upload 1.4 version theme to my 1.6 version website.

Many of the new features in 1.6 won't work. You'll need to run the "Find Updated Templates" tool and use some CSS which was added in 1.6.
Probably hire some themer if its a personal theme, if it was free release, contact the author of that particular theme to update it to 1.6x

Not much really, it is just a button that will be missing, might be more, but last time I checked it is just the reputation button in the post bit that would be gone.
A button? There's a lot more to 1.6 than a button.
The letter sorting in the memberlist, the add as buddy and ignore links in profiles, the re-arranged User CP layout, search boxes in private messages, users browsing in threads...
