IMO it does matter if the ezRPG project is "dead" as if you integrate it, you'll want support and it seems the main developer behind it has put it to a halt. However, the script DOES work and last time I used it, was fine "as-is". So technically, it's not a waste of time integrating it as it's still functional but just something to keep in mind later on down the road if you're not able to code yourself as it's unlikely that there will be a new release for a while.

Valid point, and Booher (project lead for phpRPG.net) was a developer for ezRPG, and he confirmed that it's dead, the actual project owner hasn't been on in at least a year (last release was June, 2010) so there won't be any more updates to the script.
