I just tried to update, so I overwrite all files. But then came this:
"MyBB has experienced an internal error and cannot continue.

MyBB Error (42)
Error Message:
Your board has not yet been upgraded. Please do so before attempting to browse it."
What can I do?

I found my misstake.
In the instructions for upgrading was that I should delete the file "lock". I've made. The forum took the file or so, however, so I can go to acp.
I also had the same issue and it did not work even after I deleted the "lock" file. I tried going to
http://forum.veettamma.com/ install/install.php and I got a message saying that I am logged in with an account that does not have administrative privileges. I then logged in with my admin account and it asked me if I wanted to upgrade or install fresh copy.
Clicking the upgrade did the trick. Hope this info will help someone else.
