2.0 mod notes inside posts
#1
right now there is no way for a mod to leave a note inside a post they've edited that is only visible to the mod team and the original poster. it'd be a nice addition to have this. I guess the ability to make the mod note have different levels of viewing permissions wouldn't be a bad idea either.

ex:
public - all users can view the mod note
private - only the mod team & the original poster can view it
hidden - only mods can see it

I've had users PM me in the past when a mod edited their post because they weren't sure why their posted was edited.

Talk me through the cases where you think the public at large need to see mod notes left on a post?

basic rules violations, i.e., cursing in a thread.

I see. Reminds me of how moderators used to edit the original post and leave a 'mod warning' or 'mod mark' which was a very overt styled message explaining why something was moderated.

The idealist inside me says that on a good forum moderation is invisible and handled in a way that no one needs to know that it has happened apart from those concerned.

I mostly agree, but then the questions start rolling in as to why someone got a timeout or something was edited by the staff.  if it's for something minor like cursing on the forum, I think it's ok for the mod note to be public to help reinforce the idea that cursing on the forum isn't tolerated.

Yeh I could see that. I think this is a good suggestion.

+1 from me as well.

As I said in the other thread, better notes connected with posts rather than whole threads are a must-have feature. Current notes are nearly useless.

Instead of just a plain text box what everyone can add too it should be a little sort of comments system where mods can add notes and it will say who added it and when etc.

I think the mod notes should stand out more than just a plain text box..maybe make the mod notes box red or yellow or something that'll stand out.
