Previously fixed bug reports

Example of the problem with current policy:
http://community.mybboard.net/thread-44141.html

Can I suggest that a new subforums be created for "Past Release Bugs" and a method be used to archive them for member viewing. Really this would be helpful in a few situations and under what logic is there to hide them from view.

The above example is a perfect reason to have them viewable. People have bugs and if they searched and found it's a fixed bug and they only need to upgrade then this might LOWER the amount of support questions. This imho is one giant reason to change current policy. If there is a negative please let's hear it.

It makes sense, but hardly anyone seems to search as it is, and I personally doubt they'd search for something that might be in a previous bug report. Most people who have a problem just post a thread, don't think to search. Saying that, this guy did seem to search, but I don't think anyone can deny that the vast majority of people don't so most people still wouldn't see them.

Just IMO.

Even if only 10% search...that's still 10%. I have a feeling it's higher though. Also old bugs could help find problems in new bugs. Sometimes there is a relationship. Again...I don't see a legit reason NOT to have these public viewable.

I would have thought most people would want to have / be using the most up-to-date software available.

So for the majority, having an archive of past bugs isn't necessarily essential. Even in the case of "old bugs could help find problems in new bugs", I don't think that's the case. The developers will probably check this - such as Ryan marking them as bogus/duplicate - they know what's been fixed and what hasn't. They have access to the archives to check to cross reference.

One of my upcoming things is to log all the past 1.4 bugs in the Wiki. I'm trying to catch Ryan/Justin on MSN to run it past them to see if that was OK.

I do agree we should be keeping them in a public archive somewhere because otherwise the bug report links in the announcements go dead. There's no need to put anything on the wiki or something. An admin just needs to create a sub forum for past bug reports and move all of the past bug report forums into it.

Glad you agree Ryan. Maybe Chris can see this thread. I don't know how you guys alter the current bug reports but maybe a simple subforums for each release to keep them in order would be nice.

-Archived Report
--1.4.0
--1.4.1
--1.4.2
--1.4.3

IMHO that's simple enough. They don't even have to be on the dropdown list. Maybe even hidden from non registered members.

The archives already exist for the past versions but currently it is for staff only. It can easily be made public once Chris gives the go.

That's what I figured..now we just gotta have a public outcry for public viewable. Smile

The forums can be locked so that members can't post in them or the permissions changed at least.
