Not Solved Why not have the default smileys (in the editor) in a sprite sheet?

So when you want to comment, and you enter the mybb text editor, you are requesting at least 36 images. Why not put those 36 images in a sprite sheet by default? Wouldn't that really improve the speed the page loads, as well as the bandwidth cost (since http requests do take up some bandwidth, no matter how small)?

What happens when you want to change the smileys? Most people will not be able to edit a sprite sheet.

Have the current set up (with 30+ http requests) as a mod. Most people will not end up changing their pics+smiley set up anyway.

Also, why are the smilies gifs? Png files are better in every way.

No way should such a basic functionality be a mod. Unless MyBB can develop a backend system that will convert the smilies into a sprite sheet for you, there's no way this should be how the smiley system works.

I agree about PNG, as far as I know it's just a legacy thing, I expect we'll see them as PNG in 2.0.
