It's mainly up to you to decide. MyBB is currently in the works to be more modern while Drupal has more history. I use MyBB because it had more backend options than most of the other systems I've used.

I mean why not ?
It all depends on use case, requirements. I will say all of the free solutions are really good and if you want more power, discourse at the current state is better and ruby experience will be a plus.

Depends on what you want to build? Infact the question is what are you trying to build using mybb?

What would you use instead? A paid forum platform? Nothing?
If it does what you want, and the license is to your liking, then I don't see why not.
