IP Banning - ShadowLeader - 2009-08-01 I banned the IP of a user, and several others, who kept recreating accounts and spamming up the forum, but ehy would return a few moments later with a new IP address and make another account. Basically, how did they do this and how do I stop them from doing it? I assumed it was they were using a proxy, but are there other ways as well? RE: IP Banning - Polarbear541 - 2009-08-01 Sometimes depending on their ISP you can simply reset your modem to get a new IP address. This system is called a Dynamic IP address. There isn't a good way to stop it unless you block some of the numbers with a wildcard. If it is a proxy and you could probably find out by visiting the IP address then you could use this to stop it: http://www.mybbcentral.com/thread-1658.html RE: IP Banning - ShadowLeader - 2009-08-01 And what exactly will that do? Also, what is a "wildcard"? RE: IP Banning - Polarbear541 - 2009-08-01 That will stop proxies from accessing your forum. Wildcards are a '*' they mean all. (Everything) So if you just put a wildcard in the IP block then it would block everyone. RE: IP Banning - ShadowLeader - 2009-08-01 OK...thanks. EDIT: I can't download that if I am not a paying subscriber. Can I get that anywhere for free? RE: IP Banning - Polarbear541 - 2009-08-01 Nope thats the only plugin for stopping proxies that exists. RE: IP Banning - ShadowLeader - 2009-08-01 Figures. OK, thank you. |
