When doing a field.. db -> int .. or .. radio -> int

Is there a way to get the dropdown choices to save more than 15 characters? It seems no matter if I do a radio button or dropdown I'm always cut off. Some things like paint color, transmission type, etc. can take up more than 15 characters.

Or maybe I just am screwing something up on my end misunderstanding which is entirely possible
