The warning system in vB 3.8 seems nice as it can give "yellow card" 0 Warning Point and "red card" X Point(s). :p

you can do that in the MyBB warning system. Create a Yellow Card warning type with 0 points and a Red Card warning type with more points.

Then create one or more warning levels that take appropriate action based on the points as you see fit
