Facebook itself was more interactive before that chat bar appears... Private Messages are the best way to communicate, just leave it that way Wink

I'm not really going to agree with this in anyway. The last thing a forum needs is a chat system. You can easily use an IRC or find a modification that can go with the forum.

Would love to see a combo of live chat and PM the way Facebook is doing messages currently.

Why not?

I agree a public live chat is a bad idea but what's the negative of IM between members?

Useless overhead. People come to talk publicly, not privately. Regardless of how you disguise it, it's still chat. PMs are all that's needed.

If people don't want to talk to each other privately, why do PMs exist at all? A "chat" is just a live PM. It's a positive thing to let your users connect to each other on a personal level on your site; it reinforces positive feelings and brand loyalty.
