2.0 Yii framework
#21
Hi Labrocca,

seems like all MyBB staff "poisoning" by Yii Wink
well, lets see how the performance vs feature/beautiful will increase your CPU resources.

Personally, I like current model of MyBB. I am not a PHP coder. But, I do understand what inside MyBB core coded.

In the future, the core programmer will be scarcely found. Everybody depend on framework, even make a program easy. But, once Yii change their mind into paid. Then, MyBB will "dead" like PunBB Smile

Just my personal thought

I highly doubt Yii will go paid, but if they do then we'd keep it updated. Just like what was discussed if Yii was to stop development.
No longer involved in the MyBB project.

The beauty of the GPL... fork it!

If our decision to choose Yii as our framework was simply because of "beauty" I can assure you we wouldn't go with it, especially because there's nothing beautiful about it.
All my plugins are available for free at MyBB Extend and on my GitHub. MyBB-Plugins.com has been closed and none of my plugins are officially maintained or supported.

It annoys me when people are somewhat ignorant of the scenario. If Yii goes paid, then myBB finishes off their current (major) release, and then switches frameworks. It isn't rocket science IMO.

Hmm...it's not rocket science either that switching frameworks would represent a redesign and rebuilding of the code base. I don't think the argument that Yii will go paid is valid. That's just not likely.

Well that is a pretty fair point labrocca - but isn't a new major release a gigantic change of code in itself...

I see where you are coming from, I may have posted a little too strong - but...

If Yii goes paid (which it won't) we fork it. It's GPL.

I was going to mention forking it - but I didn't know about their licensing.
