I would like to close down registrations for a while, but do not want to lose SEO value by closing the forum completely down. Is there any way I can do this because I'm going away for a bit.

i think he mean ACP > Configuration > settings > User Registration and Profile Options > Disable Registrations
he didn't mention the "Settings" because it is set by default to go there when you click on Configuration
