I'm now happy with page 1 on Google Yahoo and Bing when people search for "Psoriasis Forum" So I will leave both Keywords and Description there as it can't be doing any harm.

Cheers.

well ive done what you said but put the meta tags on the portal as thats the pages you land on for my site and ive changed my site description to include the words vauxhall forum its gotta be worth a try

Good luck, On a side note I noticed your title is "VAUXHALL MODIFIED FORUM" if you search for those words you come out top. it may be worth changing it to "Vauxhall Forum" depending on what you think your audience would search for, this would also help you compete with other Vauxhall Forums out there.

yeah i see what you mean about the title and yeah people searching for a site like mine would put vauxhall forum i know thats what id search for think ill change it and hopefully i`ll go to the top with vauxhall forum thanks for the help

i`ve changed it to vauxhall forum now but how can i set it up so that mailings from the site come up as vauxhall modified not just vauxhall forum
please someone release a script to downgrade from 1.8 to 1.6

Regardless, if I was searching google for "MyBB" I'd be more likely to click on the link that says "The official homepage for MyBB, a free PHP and MySQL based discussion system." than "Welcome to Qatar University e-learning System.".

The description is still important. If you recieved 10x more organic traffic by describing your site correctly, there's a high chance your site will get a better page rank from more activity/content/links to your site. In time you can improve your position for certain keywords by getting the traffic in the first place. Smile
No longer involved in the MyBB project.

sarisisop - thanks for your tips in this thread. Your forum indeed seems very popular and easy to find via Google. I have recently set up a health related forum too and would really appreciate any further ideas you may have to make it easier to find!

CRAIG@VM - how did you get on with the suggestions in this thread?

I got a question. You seem to have a vbulletin board so how can we give you 100% correct answers to getting "perfect" Google backlinks.

Hi Craig,

Nice to see a UK Forum owner with a similar niche to mine.

Everything i say is from my own experience. Getting the ball rolling is a waiting game, the worst think you can do is force it. I only briefly advertised my site on facebook for a month, the rest has been a genuine progression and prescence on the internet.

Content seems to drive traffic. For example, if like on your site, someone on mine posts something like 'Faulty camshaft berlingo', if someone else searches that on google my site will tend to pop up #1 with other related threads below it. The more people you have posting on the site, the more topics you are covering, the more likely you are to appear relevant for someones search on the net; its the opposite of a vicious circle.

I tried my best to let the forum develop its own atmosphere by stepping back and seeing what people were talking about most, and getting a good forum structure ONCE the content filled the areas it did. It seems like a good content structure >> healthy forum >> more members using your 'resource >> more traffic and so on.

In the end i dont think things like title words and getting a good description count, just keep it authentic and free flowing and you will get the result. You can feel if you are going to do well in searches by the activity on the forum, sometimes when it drops for me i know i wont be up there with Autotrader and Wikipedia, but other days we are top.

Good luck!

He was using MyBB when he first started this thread, but has since moved to vbulletin.
