Spambots, even when protection added
#1
Well, is there any 100% secure way to take away those disgusting spambots?

I have installed the registration timer, which I got on default value (15 seconds) and also the stopforumspam filter where I filter out bots that got mailadresses and IP numbers the same.

Yesterday I saw many guests visiting, and when I checked their IP number, I saw it's the bots that probably are failing registering.

However, this morning I found one new member on the forum, and it was a spambot (which is seen because they always add an ICQ number and have a weird mail adress).

So anybody who got great tips of how I really can get rid of them?
And why do they even exist? do they only advertise or why?

Search for the Registration Security Question plugin on the mods site. Change those questions to something unique and relating to your niche. That should probably catch the odd one or two that get through.

Human spammers can get through the registration time and security question plugin. There is no 100% way to block spammers.

There are plugins that have been made for some software(I think a few for mybb) that just check the user ip, username, email trying to sign up and if it matches a local known spammer it denys the registration.

I know, but it's definitely helpful because it could occasionally catch some bots.
