Mybb Plugins&Support
#11
Another plugin site is always cool to see, and I accept that you like the MyBB default theme (it really isn't that bad) but as your users are going to be MyBBers then a change of theme is advisable. Why? Because poor old default theme has got a reputation for being used on forums where not a lot of effort has gone into it. Not that I am saying that about your forum, just saying that is the popular perception.

On the downloads - I was intrigued by the buy it and PM me approach. Have you considered using a downloads mod? There are a couple about that work quite well, Pirata's My Downloads is popular (I can't remember if it is free or paid, but if it is one of the paid it is part of a suite he made that is available at a very fair price).

An idea for the stats and even the latest posts is to put a sidebar on your index, that will help a little on wide screens and keep the info you think is important near the top.

Thank you for your input Leefish. There are some very valid advices from a fellow coder. I know what you mean about the default theme. The thing is that atm I am a little busy with some work and since the Mybb default theme looks quite nice imo I thought to leave it like that for the time being until I find some time to work on it.

About the download for the paid mods, I was planning to look into a more suitable solution as the plugins I will place on sale grow.

About the sidebar, do you mean to show them up like xenforo has it for example?

Well, I have a sidebar on my index - here is a link:

Sort of like that is what I mean.

I think Pirata's My Downloads is paid one. Alternatively, use Edson's Downloads Plugin: http://mods.mybb.com/view/downloads

It makes a good replacement.

Lmao, i made sure to put "my opinion" to emphasise the fact that it was mine. Calling something stupid isn't name calling, especially since it isn't a person. It wont be offended. Then you go off calling me arrogant. Hilarious.

That looks good at your forum.

Thanks. That would save me quite some time from having to code it myself.

Calling stupid what someone likes is offensive. I saw you at that other thread also where the OP of that thread wanted forum tabs and how you got on his case only because he liked it and you did not like it. You were trying to shove your opinion down that poor guy 's throat.

Anyway, I would kindly ask you to refrain from posting in my thread here if you do not have anything constructive to add about the subject.

Well, I always think that on fluid width sites the index can get really stretched looking on a large screen so an extra column always helps to make things look a bit more exciting - your stats and the latest posts mod would look good I think.

Of course, you might have to tweak the latest posts template to make it fit in a sidebar, but latest posts on index in a sidebar is a very common way of breaking up the index a bit.

I agree. I have coded a similar mod for xenforo that adds the recent posts on the sidebar and it spices things up quite a bit.

It's simply my opinion. I am going to be honest, nothing personal against you. Anything I say is meant to act as feedback for you to take into account. I also recommend that you take less offense to things, this is the internet after all. Things are bound to come across as offensive that aren't meant to be so.

Secondly, I absolutely despise tabs as do other members on this forum. It is a reason to create more forums to "fill" the tabs, looks bad, and is pretty useless for most forums IMO. Hence why I am so strongly against it.

Finally, for some feedback now I'm on my computer. Try and come up with ways to make your site unique so that it stands out. That's why custom themes are really good, instead of just using the default one. Your site will stand out from all of the other sites. Content is king, so add some more plugins too.

Good luck.

You should definitely add a showcase forum, that would make me join Toungue
