why would you want to see what every single user on the site is doing? seems like it would be an incredibly overwhelming page of useless information

The thing I would want from this is a page PER USER (profile page activity tab or something) that shows what that user has done - an activity wall if you like. A load of info on the portal is indeed largely useless IMO - we need to encourage each member to post and contribute and see the results on their own page.

@Leefish & Brad: isn't that what Tomm M's MyNetwork profile system activity module does?

Not really. It gives just posts and threads. It does not support attachments/images. I would want my activities to have that visual aspect as so much of my board is about visuals.

Ah, fair enough. If I get time I'll see if I can sort anything out for both a per-user activity feed and a board-wide one.

I don't agree. Have a look at facebook. You see all the updates of your friends on one page. That's what I'm aiming at.
A mix of board activity and just some people sharing stuff and posting comments on this feed.

Sweet to hear that.

What types of feed you guys might want?

Also, if I do, I certainly don't find any reason to allot a comment box for any type of activity feed especially when you can comment on the person's profile through profile comments plugin.

Right, but the profiles need a proper status function (or should we call it "Wall" Smile ) which feeds the greater activity feed. Smile
With auto embed and all that jazz.

Users should have privacy options so they can decide if people are allowed to post on their wall.

Social stuff:
-Status updates
-Comments on status updates.
-Profile Comments

Plugin Details:
-Setting for users to chose which news to display.

if you are going to code a plugin like that I have something that might be useful:
It is inspired by phpbb social network and it is like a FB wall but much simpler. Just comments, with mycode parser, a bit of ajax (for loading old comments) and no filter, I mean, I don't care about friends, every user sees the same "wall" (easy to change, just adding an inner join to the query).
Admins and global mods can delete entries.

Not very difficult, but you can start from that instead of from scratch.
It is not a public plugin yet, cause I'm still learning, but it is almost a complete plugin (jquery and one manual template edit).

It is working in my forum, if you are interested send me a PM, I would be happy to help.
