I dunno, can't help but feel everyone is missing the point, which is not to make a Facebook clone but to increase social engagement on your forum. Sites like Facebook work because you keep your personal friends etc. on there, but forums are based around an interest, NOT around social groups.

What I envision, at least, is more of an activity feed with custom styling etc based on what happens, e.g.

Getting sick of writing this. But you get it. If users are posting videos or status updates to their wall, those are posts NOT being made on the forums, and who's really going to read these?

Another thing is that Facebook revolves entirely around the news feed, so there's no chance of lost focus. But this is tacking on functionality to an already existing user experience – how can you ensure that it's going to get enough attention, or worse, doesn't take all the attention?

Exactly. The profile - should reflect what the user is doing in the forum. See a profile feed as a fancy way of seeing a users posts (+ some other things) - but looking a LOT nicer and not needing to leave the page.

It's true, this is pretty much what MyNetwork does ... I think MyNetwork's issues are largely presentational, not functional.

Modifying MyNetwork is like looking for a golf ball in a pile of nettles. Yes you get the ball in the end but the process is painful. Even if you don't find the ball, it is still painful.

EDIT: Last time I looked activity was somewhat buggy - Tomm may well have fixed it - more importantly, I don't want to use the MyNetwork profiles and you have to to get the activity.

Right, I was thinking about this - to a certain extent - isn't a lot of the data that is needed for such a wall thing already recorded in MyAlerts? Just the data needs to be in the opposite direction. If you see what I mean.
