As far as we're concerned, MyBB will continue being developed for another 10 years too. I'd like to think it will be longer than 10 years. The internet needs it's community software .

Just to help clear this up: All MyBB versions go through a (strict) release procedure to eliminate the chances of "unintended features". At this point MyBB 1.8 is in an Alpha stage and once that is complete; our team will decide to move onto a Beta stage and so on... As for MyBB 2.0, let me assure you, progress is being made but there is an amazing amount of work to be done. We have to continue releasing MyBB 1.6.x versions to fix any bugs, etc; and make some minor improvements. MyBB 1.8 has to be tested and has to get the odd developers fix. MyBB 2.0 requires a brand-new framework and the code to be re-written. Not something that will come overnight, but with time

I find that hard to believe. If you had of written that ammount of code. You would know it takes years if you do it in your free time. And besides. MyBB does not contain that much code. As far as I'm aware it's like 120-130 thousand lines. Excluding comments.

myBB is booming and the 1.8 and 2.0 versions is great for what they are right now (which is a WIP). I doubt myBB will slow down anytime soon so I think the future for myBB is bright.
I've got to say, myBB is the best forum software out there.
Not only is it free, but extremely user friendly and easy to integrate into your own sites/scripts. I never liked vB's adminCP. Glad to hear it will be going for at least another ten years.
MyBB is awesome and mega flexible CMS engine that in skilled and knowledgeable hand
is equal or better than many CMS platforms. Its a cool content management system which by default is shiped under a forum skin, but in real engine is designed like good CMS where content, engine and presetnation are perfectly separate things, giving one oportunity to shape it to anything he like's. I found it when tried to interface joomla with MyBB, with belief that joomla will be main publishing platform and MyBB will work as nicely made user accounts, with pm's, build in forum ect (which joomla as CMS lack). After i accomplished it and began to use i found that im rediscovering wheel, and that joomla not only slowing down all site but is completly unnecessary, because i got 2 times the same thing, which can be done just by MyBB alone. The thing that was made twice was 'managing the same overlaping data, double time titles, double times categories, couble times content, double times author, ect ect, one from MyBB and the same thing from joomla CMS... That was nonsense which created unnecessary overload of SQL queries, which i discovered by observing them both connected working from inside, which made me decide to drop one and use only better one for everything - MyBB ofcourse. Who said forum's can not become categories, posts cannot be articles, and replies cannot be comments ? Everything is there and its is perfectly managed by MyBB, It have data managing tools, categories, articles, users, groups, Pm's, user privilages, everything and much more than joomla CMS itself have. If one reshape the way how data is displayed with themes and plugins, MyBB can be anything you want, not just forum and it can be done easly without even touching core files - because exacly this, awesome MyBB design of his template system with plugin hooks which nicely separate content (data) from engine and presentation. it would be waste if anyone would even think that development of this cool stuff can be droped. Not mention that moving it to Github will possibly bring even more awesome developers. MyBB is brilliant thing and i know it will be even better. If someone ask me what forum software would i suggest - its always MyBB - the best. |
