1.8 MyBB is becoming too old respect the other

This is one of the most anticipated features of 1.8 ...

I think there is still a lot to say here, but clearly nobody is interested in having a conversation about it. So I'll keep what's left to myself.

However, for what it's worth, while I can't develop PHP I have talked about joining the MyBB project before and have been rebuffed. PHP developers are crucial but they are not the only valuable assets.

A quick search tells me we haven't received any applications from you.
And you're right, PHP developers are not the only valuable assets, I never said that actually. But without them you can have the brightest ideas for MyBB but they'll never be implemented.
All my plugins are available for free at MyBB Extend and on my GitHub. MyBB-Plugins.com has been closed and none of my plugins are officially maintained or supported.

It's not true. But if you just criticize without suggesting a suitable solution, it goes to nothing...

In regards to jQuery, I wouldn't drop that feature. Even if it means I have to fix all existing bugs alone. A lot of them are trivial to fix. Wink

I did not apply through any traditional channels – just informally, but it seemed there was no interest, so I did not spend any time on an application.

While I agree, we can't really talk about solutions if we can't even agree on what the problem is, or if there is a problem.

Don't drop jquery conversion please, I can live with 100 small bugs for a while but not with prototype anymore. Lots of interesting UIs are being developed day by day and due to a lot of compatibility issues, sometimes we've to compromise it as all things cannot be worked or satisfied at a time.

So we (or at least I and many would agree by me) can wait even longer for 1.8 (there's no hurry, take the time) but deliver jquery conversion.

Huh
Just to quote some responses:

Therefore MyBB 1.8 is a compromise, implementing some frequently suggested improvements while not breaking many existing plugins and themes.

I think it clearly outlines our dilemma...

I disagree that there is nothing that can be done to improve the 1.x series in a significant way without breaking it for current users. Even from a UI/UX standpoint a lot of work can be done to improve things outside of huge new features and with only slight compatibility issues.

Could you please elaborate further? I have no idea what you want to suggest...

Me neither.

@brad-t informal applications are as useful as nothing.

When people with the authority to accept new members tell you your skills aren't necessary, that is enough to dissuade one from applying. Wouldn't you agree? Would you apply under those circumstances? I've tried to contribute to the project in my own ways, including the Humanization Project and with numerous feature ideas that have been seriously considered – for which I'm very grateful. This isn't the same level of contribution as anyone on the dev team, something I am obviously aware of.

---

This isn't the right space to get into the numerous UI and UX issues that MyBB has, some of which I've documented already. As a small example, why is the registration process so clunky? It hasn't changed in over half a decade, right? Why not change this for 1.8, when it can be done with pretty basic edits already? MyBB doesn't have anyone dedicated to User Experience. (Or if they do, this is not plainly visible to users.) This is an issue that should be rectified.

If someone from the team is ever interested in discussing UX in a serious manner, my inbox is always open. Smile I don't think the atmosphere in this thread will be really productive for anyone.
