Your right. Not working. Another idea. In inc/datahandlers/user.php
Find:

"avatar" => $db->escape_string($user['avatar']),

replace with:

"avatar" => 'images/avatar.png',
			"avatardimensions" => '60|60',
                        "avatartype" = 'gallery',

Its an example. Change to the fit you need.
