Spam registrations have stopped.
#1
I have the security registration plugin - which did not stop bogus registrations - but did seem to slow them down to one per 24 hours.
And I've been tweaking settings.

The last two settings were:
1) Time Between Registrations - reduced it from 24 hours to 2 hours
2) CAPTCHA Images for Registration & Posting - set to No CAPTCHA

I reduced the time between registrations so that I could do more testing if I had a higher rate of signups.
It seems that they have now forgotten me!

Some spam registrations had trickled in - maybe a two or three per day - and all originating in China or India.
I added two ip bans. . .both of them Chinese. . .something like 218.*.*.*
Plus added a registration question with the words "Tiananmen Square" in it so that the China government would also help block their people.
Thusly:
"The Tiananmen Square protest occurred in what country?" | china

The bots for mybb registrations are actually pretty well written and manage to get past the security no matter how hard I try. I adapt my security questions every couple of months to new ones and large sets, otherwise the human spammers are working them into the code and getting past.

Its just a fight you have to fight, still my security blocks way more than I get.

GoodBye Spammer is a great tool as well for getting rid of the ones that do get through.

I use several combinations of security

- ReCaptcha
- Security Questions

Good (so far) spam killer is AGM. While using it for 8 mnths now, no spammer (human nor bot) went through.
