Mark Thread as read? or Ignore?

Someone at my forum has asked for a "Mark thread as read" feature which I think means that once selected, that thread will never get highlighted (bolded) in the index. (For him.)

Does anyone know if there is such a function or plugin? I have tried searching but possibly I'm not using right terminology to find it.

There is built in functionality to mark a forum read, both on the index page and the forumdisplay page. Specific threads being read or not are indicated by the users last visit time and the timestamp of the last post in the a thread.
