Pretty sure there's a setting that you caan disable the portal. There's also a plugin that disables it.

It is a problem with the theme, disabling the portal works anyways mentioned here.
Drop this in your .htaccess:
Untested, but should work.
The request to the portal.php file is done via JavaScript so that wouldn't work.
