Not Solved Upgrade - 1.6.14 to 1.8.0 Release

The upgrade was a mess for the default MyBB 1.6.14 template. The default theme that came with 1.6.x didn't get fully upgraded to 1.8.0, or was never properly overwritten.

Images are showing up as "missing" instead of being changed/switched out in the template conversion. I don't know how this upgrade process was overlooked in the Beta 3 testing or how the release version of upgrade.php got so messed up between Beta 3 and Release.

I'm glad I used a copy of the original "production" database. I'm definitely just going to scrap the upgrade.php process and do a fresh install, import the data that I want and screw importing the default theme. I honestly thought the theme would have at least been converted to the new one properly so I wouldn't have to go in and clean up the missing images.

Have you run find updated templates? All templates are updated as usual, new stylesheets are added and stylesheets which aren't changed are updated. However it's not possible to automatically detect changes to stylesheets. So as long as you're really using the default theme without any changes it should work.

There were no changes to the default stylesheets that came with MyBB 1.6. The default images of 1.6 weren't removed from the templates where the images had been changed or omitted from the 1.8 templates. It's like the upgrade completely ignored the templates that contained 1.6 default images and didn't want to remove references to the default 1.6 images. Images like on.gif, off.gif, offlock.gif were still showing up in the templates instead of using the forum_icon_sprite.png as contained in the ./images directory.

Also, this is not a support request, this is feedback. Whoever moved the thread, you can move it back to the feedback section.

The process of updating templates hasn't been changed during the last years and seams to work well if you update/revert your custom templates.

Last time I ran upgrade.php, the message said that upgrade.php was reverting templates to default. Besides, the images that weren't removed from templates were in fact default templates. They weren't customized at all. So I don't know why you're getting "successful" results and when I go through the upgrade with default templates, I'm not getting the same results as you claim to have, especially when the templates of concern were default well before 1.8 was released.

This was not intended to be a support request. If I wanted support for it, I would have posted this in the support section to begin with.
