Add Latest Post/Threads To forum From Portal

Hello guys , 
while upgrading to 1.8 and using the 1point8 theme , i now have a portal page , i was wondering how to put basically everything from the portal page into the forum area ? Most wanted is the latest threads , how do i do this guys ?

This worked , But the latest threads lined up UNDER the forums , i would like them to sit to the right along side the forum and shoutbox (its how i had it in 1.6)

Add a sidebar to your forum (can be found in tutorials) and add the code {$latestthreads} to the sidebar.

This works , however i now have to fix the colour tones on the fonts
Any known tutorials ?

What i mean is , the font color used in the latest thread sidebox is that of the clour used in the Thead so its color is inherited from the thead color, but on the portal the font color is perfect
