Support upgrade mybb 1.6.9 to 1.8.3

(You are currently running MyBB 1.6.9 whilst the latest generally available release is MyBB 1.8.3 (1803).)
I want upgrade my forum, but i afraid error occurs.
i want know step by step to upgrade forum.
pls help me.

put forum offline
take backups of database, files, and custom themes (if you have)
deactivate all plugins
upload MyBB 1.8.3 files by overwriting earlier version files
run upgrade script by visiting yourforumurl/install/upgrade.php

^ you can use export theme option from themes section (actually this is not necessary)
