Not Solved Problem when searching in ACP

After my recent upgrade to 1.8.4, an irritating nuisance has appeared:

ACP » Home » Users » Find Users ... when I enter an email address to search for, the "Results per page" field is set to zero and halts the search process...and I have to manually go change this field to a non-zero value.

Does anyone know how to set the default value of this field so I don't have to enter it every time I search for a user?

Also, this field has some scroll up and down buttons...but they do not change the value of the field.  I have to manually type in a value.
