Attachments not showing up (merged from vBulletin 4.2.2)

well, the merge went really well (see http://community.mybb.com/thread-168488.html) but unfortunately the attachments aren't showing up correctly.
Since everything went so smooth with the merge (relatively speaking), I am suspecting corrupt attachments, but not able to say for sure.
I see the attachments are present (1.2GB or something like that), but clicking on a link brings up a blank/black background and following message:
The image "http://mysite.com/attachment.php?aid=17989" cannot be displayed because it contains errors.
Any help appreciated...
