Two dashes (hyphens) throw error

On our installation of MyBB (v.1.8.0) posting two or more consecutive dashes e.g. "----" throws a permissions error, e.g.

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /forums/newreply.php on this server.

Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at www.XXXXX.XX Port 80

Is this a known issue which has subsequently been fixed? I've searched these forums for it but have found nothing relevant.

contact your web host and ask to remove any additional security they are using (eg. mod_security)
