Feature Suggestion/Enhancement: Only "threads read" instead of "threads read" AND "forums read"

The mechanism to identify if a thread is new or old is very long-winded. I like the option to mark a whole forum as read, but I would prefer that simply every thread in this forum would be marked as read.


Expected functionality

If there would be only threads marked as read, for a plugin it would be much easier to determine the status of threads it wants to list.

Any additional notes

Also with only one criterion perhaps there would be no bug with the forum-read-status if you have 3-level nested forums.
