I do not know whether I understand you correctly. But the size of avatars can be set at various places:

AdminCP -> Configuration (settings) -> Show Thread Options -> Maximum Avatar Dimensions in Posts

AdminCP -> Configuration (settings) -> Profile Options -> Default Avatar Dimensions

AdminCP -> Configuration (settings) -> Profile Options -> Maximum Avatar Dimensions

AdminCP -> Configuration (settings) -> Member List -> Maximum Display Avatar Dimensions
