That's because tha plugin was made for another series of MyBB and maybe have to make some changes to make it works o 1.8.6 series.

You have to read that thread, you have to use notepad ++ or some editor and open file of that plugin, then go to line mentioned of compatibillity and change it to 18* as the info says and maybe have to make some other changes, but you have to wait until some user rewrite it or see if it works.

I have some christmas plugin on my site and works on 1.8.x seris but only shows snow and other images day at day to make a christmas space, lml.
