I have  mybb forum setup on my QNAP and i went to log onto it the other day, and it says it can't find the database so i reinstalled mybb and got in, how do i restore from the backup file that mybb has created.  Again i am doing this on a QNAP NAS.

Open phpMyAdmin and import the .sql backup file (your backup might be a compressed archive (.sql.gz), so you need to unpack it).
