How can I add table support via mycode?  mods.mybb doesn't work so I can't download plugin.

MyBB 1.8.x version plugins & themes are available at Extend section
mods.mybb.com is archive section belonging to older versions of MyBB.
plugins & themes from mods.mybb.com are NOT supposed to be used with MyBB 1.8.x

If you mean this: http://community.mybb.com/mods.php?action=view&pid=276 then it should work fine (ofc template edits need to succeed in your custom theme(s)).
