Hi,

i have done a testmigration from SMF to myBB.

The result looks good. But it looks that i have to run the old forum for one or two years more, because otherwise all the links will not longer work.

Old Link: www.xxx.xx/forum/index.php?topic=18178.0
New URL: www.xxx.xx/mybb/thread-17180.html

Is there a chance to preseve the end of the old URL after the migration ?

(Another possibility was to create a static archive from the old SMF-Forum, but i dont know what is a practical way for it)

Greetings

AFAIK, there is no chance of preserving the numbers belonging to earlier URLs.

if keeping URLs is most important then you have to keep SMF forum in closed status
(i.e. browsing should be available and users should have no posting privileges)
and run MyBB forum afresh in a folder / sub-domain ..

Shure i will do this at the first time. Locking all the Boards is a lot of work, but its OK.
When i install all the in the future released SMF-Updates maybe its save...

Supposed that SMF is as save as myBB (i dont think so!), i have doubled the risk.
I can deaktivate a plugins like Tapatalk wil help a little bit more, but i would feel saver when i could the hole forum to static pages a do no more updates for it...

Redirecting to the forum index is the easy way out (and you probably have that by default if your old forum used index.php as thread URL), but you could go all the way and redirect each thread properly.

I'm not sure if this is still up to date and it was for phpBB but in principle it's something like this:

http://community.mybb.com/thread-82995-p...#pid604334

Rewrite rule for a ?topic=18178.0 will look different, you have to match the query string.
