How do you make it so that the quoted portions of your forum messages have a different background color, or alternating background colors, to help one quoted portion stand out more from other quoted portions in the same message?

You mean nested quotes of different colours?

When you quote someone, now, the quoted block of text is black text on a light blue background, after the forum user posts their message which includes a quoted response.

I want the text of the quoted portions to be black, but if there is a quote from more than one individual, I would like for the background color of the quoted blocks to not all be the same color, light blue.

The above is a good example. I want the quoted block for GrimFinger's text to be in one color, and the quoted block of katos to be another color. Not the text, itself, but the block that the quoted text is displayed within.

Very easy to do mate, use blockquote blockquote.

For example here only add a class
blockquote blockquote {
background: #ccc;
}
It will make inner post color as ccc Smile

Hope it helps.
