I think i installed the plugin correctly. Is there anything else i must do?

How exactly can you tell if its working correctly?

EDIT:
Actually i know how it did not work, as everything i click now gets me to a 404 page. reverting changes, but how to fix?

If your webpage url are converting to thread titles in place of showthread.php or thread-(random number) than your plugin is working properly.

No i didnt. But when i did that i get a 404, and then i enable Google SEO and i still get a 404. Had to revert google plugin and switch friendly URL back to automatic to even make the forum usable for the time being.

ug why is this mybb forum so touchy with posts. It bans you from posting certain things...scuh as this post

In summary i had to add "AllowOverride All" to my apache config for that site to allow the .htaccess file to be used at all.
