How to check player how many visits user have in one day?

Was looking for a plugin that gives "newpoints" for visiting daily
and found https://community.mybb.com/thread-210360.html
sadly i don't think the author is active anymore
so i was thinking how would i tell if a user have visited a forum once 
and make sure i only give out "newpoints" once
