Thank u all for kind replies....

Updating from 1.6.8 to 1.6.18 went OK...

On backup server, I updated from 1.6.18 to 1.8.0 also worked but a big mess in plugins and theme....

This needs too much work to complete.

I think I need some mybb staff help... Ready to pay, Kindly reach me by PM.

Best regards.

As I said earlier - plugins designed for 1.6 series won't work on MyBB 1.8.
Try to find newer versions for MyBB 1.8 or find new plugin that works in similar way.

Themes either have to be heavily modified or a better solution is to install a theme from the Extend Section since those are compatible with the 1.8 series.

It's really not. Labrocca runs websites that cater for thousands of people per day, he expects that things are going to work, not be arbitrarily broken. It's also the main reason I rolled a custom over someone elses work, so that I could own the problems and fix them. I've fixed issues within minutes of them being reported to me, and rolled out updates within the hour before; all because it was my code and I knew where the issues were.

Comes down to personal choice.

Well... Anyone should update as soon as it is possible due to any security problems etc.
BUT SOMETIMES!
Oh you see, there this "but sometimes" it isn't the best option. Consider that someone have really big forum based on MyBB. Like about 5k users online (yeah nowadays it's almost impossible, but it;s just example).
If upgrade fails forum will be off for some time just to revert back changes and use backups.
I can see why people don't want to upgrade in this case.

BUT, there's one more thing to say - if forum is big there will be problems with upgrading due to amount of data needed to check and update in database. I'd say that wisets way to do this is to make "mirror" of original data and check if upgrading is possible - in that way we can fix all problems before upgrade and simply use upgraded and fixed data to upgrade our forum.

Anyway everyone can choose if he/she want's upgrade or not. I say it would be good to update, but in some cases upgrading make things only worse Wink

It's a personal choice to create your own forum website software, too. Now, you can easily find errors and whatnot since you know every line in the code.

This is not what we are talking about here...

We are talking about people using pre-made software (MyBB) that requires periodic upgrades to deal with security and vulnerability issues.

Labrocca employs a number of people who are coders that could have easily done the upgrades over the years... but doing ZERO upgrades for 7 years is quite dumb in my opinion.

Failure to do this is asking for trouble.
