Impact both to be hot

Hot topics should be defined in a time-period basis; not just 'hot forever'.

The idea is much logical, but do we track reply / view counts of threads with timestamp? I guess no.
But of course a good logic Ben. My default avatar tutorial was hot once, but not today as its in MyBB core now. Surely a nice improvement that can be considered for 1.9

Why not?

The timestamp is already there for posts. It's literally as easy as another WHERE in the query for what constitutes a hot topic (dependent on seconds that have passes since NOW(), rather than anything else). If you wanted to simplify it further, you can set "Last hour, Last Day, Last Week, Last Month and Last Year" as options.
