[General] 'Check for Updates' never work

So, I was browsing around the ACP. I find that 'Check for Updates' in the 'Home' of ACP never works. It always says please try again in a few minutes.

I have seen that this happens in the case of 'File Verification' also (which is in 'Tools & Maintenance'). Currently I am trying mybb in a free server. So, this bothers me will it be a problem when I use mybb in my live site?
