Image verification not showing but failing!

Hi, new install of 1.8.22

When registering the new user gets the error 

'The image verification code that you entered was incorrect. Please enter the code exactly how it appears in the image.'

However, the captcha isn't displayed.

I'd prefer it was displayed but if it can be disabled that would suffice.

GD library might be missing at your server.

perhaps it would be better to use Google Recaptcha

register your forum at Google ReCaptcha & get the keys

forum admin panel >> configuration (settings) >> General Configuration >> CAPTCHA Images for Registration & Posting

select noCaptcha ReCaptcha or Recaptcha invisible & fill up its public key & private key ; save the settings

after above changes check your forum registration page ..
