Is there a plug-in that lets you show a thread based on field in profile?

I have an idea for a forum, but I would like to have a feature where the user selects a field either at registration and/or in the user's profile, that allows the user to see/access corresponding subforum(s).

For instance, let's say you are from a particular State and when you register, you select your preferred state and this opens up a subforum or set of suborums that are only seen by those who select the same field.  Does this make sense?  This way only people who answered with the same field are interacting.

You will need a new plugin for this. I don't think there is anything that meets your description at the moment.
