I'd start by reading the Upgrade docs - link.  If you have specific questions, you can raise them as required.  It goes without saying - if you have a custom theme, you'll have more to think about.

What version to what version (current)?  What's your environment - database, php, etc.  Hosted or or otherwise?  What's your theme?  What error(s) do you see?

Don't understand how you know you have the same case without specifics?  Both you and the OP are very sparse on detail.  So sparse, doubtful anyone can hazard a guess.
