Have a look at the mail FAQ in the docs.  Start there:

https://docs.mybb.com/1.8/faq/mail/

Mail can be a slippery slope depending on many factors - some out of your control.  But go though that doc and empower support to help.  I'm no expert - lol.

In my hosting PHP Mail was deactivated for security reasons as it is the most used to send SPAM, besides sending private information through the network without any protection and in plain text. The use of SMTP will guarantee that everything is encrypted and the information will not be violated.

Php mail its not a secure option, the board software mybb its amazing but need some setting customizable to bring a better support for users.

Check Cpanel PhP mail imfo: https://support.cpanel.net/hc/en-us/arti...going-spam

Try to set up software MyBB with SMTP… its the best option for security of your host and users
