Username in profile link

How can I turn a profile link like this www.example.com/user-2.html into www.example.com/username?

This would make it easier to specify a profile. Instead of trying to find the uid, you can just type in the domain and then the username

Any help appreciated.

change profile link to www.example.com/username will create a lot of conflict in your forum
I suggest use @ before username like my forum

Usernames may contain any character of UTF8 charset. Some are not allowed in DNS (URL). So it could cause troubles in URL resolution and interpretation or escaping special chars.
There would be absolutely no issue when letters of the username are fully compliant to letteres allowed in DNS. Try the way suggested by @ziuma.
